Chris Hadfield to Headline NS Co-op Council Celebration

Mt. Everest climber and co-op social media guru will share stage at June 25 event

TRURO – The Nova Scotia Co-operative Council is proud to announce Chris Hadfield as keynote speaker for its 65th anniversary celebration, No Limits.

As commander of the International Space Station in 2013, Hadfield harnessed the power of social media to make outer space and science accessible. As author of the bestselling book, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, he detailed how the lessons learned in space are applicable to leaders on the ground today.

Nova Scotia residents will get an opportunity to hear the stories behind the lessons June 25 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro when he delivers a keynote address in an evening that also includes Laurie Skreslet, the first Canadian to summit Mt. Everest and California co-op social media guru Kristen Christian.

“We are proud to be able to share the opportunity for Nova Scotians to hear from Canada’s favorite astronaut,” says Dianne Kelderman, President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council. “It is one thing to see the videos and read the tweets; it’s quite another to see him in person. He is simply inspiring.”

The stories offered by Skreslet and Christian will be riveting as well, promises Kelderman.

Skreslet fought his way to the top of Everest in 1982. Preparation, planning and dedication to excellence were the keys to success on Mount Everest. They are the keys to leadership and success in business, he insists.

Kristen Christian is an advocate for consumer empowerment and economic sustainability.  She has led a sustained consumer initiative, Bank Transfer Day, which calls on consumers to switch from commercial banks to not-for-profit credit unions.
